poem performance plan

What John and I are doing is a silent performance. No words will be spoken. We are doing a performance based on the poem, "Eating Poetry," I will walk in as the librarian and turn my attention to something else. John will already be in the stage. Instead of portraying a dog, he will portray a man. He will be reading the paper then decide to rip it. I will turn around and start crying. The whole time, John will be smiling. He will then turn to me, get on one knee, hold my hand in attempt to comfort me. I will continue crying.  We wanted to be very literal in this performance. We are doing almost exactly following the words on the page of the poem. We wanted to do a silent poem to really intrigue the audience and give that chilling feeling that you get when reading the poem. It will show that you don't need the words to get the chilling feeling from the poem.

Poem response

Paige Borowski  10/23/19 IB Lit and Performance SL I read the poem “Eating Poetry” by Mark Strand. This poem proves very interesting to me. My first impression when reading this poem is that it has a very eerie and dark vibe. I want to keep reading after just the first line. The poem gives me chills. This poem is kinda hard for me to analyze. I’m not sure what it means. I’m not sure if this is right, but to me it seems like the speaker is a dog and it ate it’s owners homework. The owner is sad but the dog tries to lick them and be happy. What I really love in this poem is that it gives a dark twist on something so familiar. The way it talks about the dogs and how “Their eyeballs rolls,” It’s very chilling and I enjoy reading and watching stuff that makes me shudder. I also love all of the incredible and descriptive imagery in this poem. In the line “Ink runs from the corners of my mouth,” I can imagine a man with an eerie and psychotic smile on his face and ink spilling fro...

analyzing poems

For my analysis, I chose "Eating Poetry", "Famous", and "The Red Wheelbarrow" - I found that in "Famous" the work famous almost means not uncommon. like it's always there for the other thing. - "Eating Poetry"is an interesting poem for me. It's a little confusing but also kind of dark. It has this eerie vibe to it. - "The Red Wheelbarrow" is very short but it speaks a lot of volume. - All three of these poems seems to compare the interaction between 2 things. - There seems to be a lot of weight on certain aspects of each poem. The word famous in "Famous," the wheelbarrow in "The Red Wheelbarrow," and the ink of the letters in "Eating Poetry" - There seems to be some sort of contrast in each poem.

figurative language

1. simile: The twins were as similar as snowflakes 2. metaphor: The twins are snowflakes 3. personification: The twin trees stood tall 4. hyperbole: The twins were the best siblings in the world 5. onomatopoeia: The twin bees buzz 6. alliteration: The twins tiptoe through the town 7. assonance: The twin fish hurt their fin 8. consonance: the twins wins the washing competition

Final draft reflection

I think my final draft turned out well. Comparing it to my first draft, I'm happy with how I turned the essay around. The main thing I focused on when revising was making paragraphs complete and adding more detail. I made sure to add topic and transition sentences to my body paragraph. I also added more imagery in the introduction. For me, it was difficult adding enough detail to where it meets standards. I didn't know how to add more without sounding repetitive. I think finding the evidence was easy because I really believed in my thesis plus the thesis was truly about the poem. I think my strengths are adding imagery and finding evidence to support my thesis. I think my weakness is elaborating.  I don't really know. I had such a hard time with adding details that I don't know if I could add more. If I could, I definitely would. I think I will get full points on turning it in on time, word count, creative title, title of poem in quotes, maybe capturing the reade...

poetry analysis final draft

Paige Borowski 10/4/19 Lit and Performance IB Surviving On Your Own “Runaway” by Greg Kurstin and Tanner Schneider made me feel sad and sympathetic for the speaker of the poem. Emotion flooded into my body when this song first spilled into my ears through my headphones. When I isolated the words and took a second to read and absorb the sentences, I could see where I was getting all of the emotion from. The speaker of the poem is constantly lonely and always on the run from others and from her feelings. She has a hard time loving someone and constantly hurts herself in trying to do so. I then realized what this poem wanted me to know. This poem tells readers that self love matters more than love from others.  It's hard to love someone and not deal with any pain. You get hurt from trying put others before you. In the poem, there’s a line that reads, “Used to fall head over feet But everyone I loved deceived me.” That shows that she put so many people ahead of h...

poetry analysis second draft

Paige Borowski 10/4/19 Lit and Performance IB Surviving On Your Own “Runaway” by Greg Kurstin and Tanner Schneider made me feel sad and sympathetic for the speaker of the poem. I felt so much emotion when listening to this song. When taking away the music and transforming the song into a poem, I could see why. The speaker of the poem is constantly lonely and always on the run. She has a hard time loving someone. It suddenly became clear. This poem tells readers that self love matters more than love from others.  It's hard to love someone and not deal with any pain. You get hurt from trying put others before you. In the poem, there’s a line that reads, “Used to fall head over feet But everyone I loved deceived me.” That shows that she put so many people ahead of herself. She tried to make their love the most important but it did nothing but hurt her. She suffers from loving others. If she loved herself first, she would be happier. All that hurt causes h...

It’s the only friend she can tru...

song reflection

I was just a poor young little ugly thing Momma kicked me out , just shy of 17 I was lookin' for love , in the fire , in the flames But the only way to love , is to get yourself burned That's how I became the runaway I gave my hand to a man , he put the ring on me   He couldn't understand why he wasn't just like me  I should've known by the look in his eyes We looked at the same guys That's when I realized No hands will hold me I'll always be lonely Is there someone out there who can break This habit of going There's no way of knowing I promise I'll always be a little runaway Your little runaway If you're not careful, you'll get your heart broken Take me as an example, I'll be a token I used to fall head over feet But everyone I loved deceived me So, what choice does that leave A runaway You could say my shadow i s the only friend of mine But it gets pretty lonely in the nighttime My ...

poetry final performance

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WUcU2tY9Eo&feature=youtu.be I liked how different each performance was. we all interpreted it in different ways and made it interesting. It was hard for me to work with my group. They constantly wanted to change things around rather than going with the original plan. I think our performance was interesting because there was movement. We came walking in, we sat down, then stood back up for our part. It kept it interesting. I think most of the groups kept trying to change things last minute when they really shouldn't be. It was a bit on the choppy side. Overall, I think this was a great experience.
